That's a handsome N. truncata! In my experience it's a pretty easy species to root so hopefully this big one shouldn't give you any trouble.

  • #82
Thanks man! I think it was you in the shoutbox that said they were and gave me the confidence to finally do it. LOL

  • #83
Very nice truncata, but isn't that pot a little small for it?

  • #84
It's a cutting, so pot size at this point doesn't matter much till it roots and is growing :) The plant I cut it off of is the white pot behind it, much bigger and more appropriate for a rooted plant.

  • #85
Ah, I see. That makes more sense. I've never made any cuttings myself.

N. rafflesiana var. alata. This new, and biggest yet pitcher caught my eye recently and I was very excited! Then I noticed it was stuck under the lip of the plant tray and was all jacked up. :(

I just purchased a N Raff, medium sized. How long does it take to get the size of your Raff var alata? That is a good looking pitcher.

  • #91
Hello! I'd say that depends on a lot of things so really no way to say. How big is medium? How was the plant created (tc, cutting, seed...)? Best conditions provided. Proper feeding etc. So do the best you can at growing it and enjoy the journey!

I'm disappointed by whoever is distributing that plant labeled as sib x copelandii. It's one of the ramispina x ventricosa variations.
Actual sibuyanensis x copelandii look about like you'd expect a sib x alata cross to look like, but darker. Fat, heavily patterned, broad peristome, etc.

Those albos are seriously nice. How long from seed are they?

I'm not saying it was. The tag was gone so I went through pictures and found one that I thought looked like it. So either someone did, or I am associating an old photo with the wrong plant. I don't see any record of me ever having a ramispina x ventricosa hybrid though. :-\ But I do see I received a black knight from @uphwiz back in 2011, I wonder if that's it! I have other black knights now (more recent much smaller) so seeing that name on my lists didn't really stand out as a possibility.

Well, there is a photo of one of them here from 2008, so before that. :p June 2008 quick tour of the greenhouse My favorite of them finally has a basal shoot! Now that it's vine is some 2.5-3' long.

'Nice collection. That "Dutch Delight" certainly has interesting coloring.

  • #98
Do you have any photos of what the lowers on that alata looked like?

  • #99
Not any that I have well labeled. The same guy gifted me a number of alata plants which I believe include graciliflora (was alata green), alata giant and alata red. He kept unbelievable records but I can't find any email where I had asked him about this plant in particular. He also gifted me a number of albomarginata plants which had descriptions on the labels so it is possible that was just a description by him. Unfortunately Jim Bockowski has passed in 2018 so I can't get any information from him on it now.
