The local CPers started a year ago with the use of burnt earth (aka burnt clay or burnt soil) with their Neps. This media is used in general gardening to increase drainage. Here is the thread on the local forum if anyone is keen to take a look...

I have a growrack that I setup primarily to deliver light to my neps, as I don't get enough natural light from the windows. Secondarily, I use it to keep humidity high. It's normally around 25 - 30% humidity here. I have clear cellophane and mylar encasing it with an automatic humidifier...

Yes. Clay. I love this stuff. I have noticed that in pots where I use 50% arcillite, 25% LFS, and 25% bark & charcoal as the medium, with a 1/4th inch top dressing of Sphagnum, I can have near-instantaneous drainage , however, it has been my experience that it does not dry out any faster than...

My first N. northiana pitcher! I have never been more proud of any other pitcher than this very ordinary-looking juvenile one. Well, perhaps this species can be taken off the "difficult-to-grow" list.
This N. rafflesiana 'alata' is growing in pure perlite with tap water. It was a cutting left...
