    New member--nepenthes questions

Hello all, I am new to this forum, and I'm really impressed by the volume of information amassed by this group. I recently (2mo ago) bought two Nepenthes (gracilis & coccinea) and I have a few questions about them. They are doing ok for now, and coccinea is even producing new pitchers (but...

    Traps turning black

I have recently repotted my VFT and some of the new traps are turning black before they reach maturity. Is this a fungal attack? How does one apply alcohol to the fungus? Q-tip? It is also developing what I think is a flower stalk (it looks like a fist).

    Dormancy

Thanks everyone for this contribution. Pyro recently wrote this up for your viewing pleasure ;) Hey all, we seem to have created a huge massive mess out of the old topic so at Ram_Puppy’s request I have cleaned and hacked and made this a bit more readable. It is about that time of year again...

    Dormancy, hibernation, sleeping etc...

Hey all, we seem to have created a huge massive mess out of the old topic so at Ram_Puppy’s request I have cleaned and hacked and made this a bit more readable. It is about that time of year again and we expect a lot of first timers coming in and posting questions on dormancy, that's GREAT as...

    Venus flytraps for the birds

When I got home from work today, I checked on a newly planted venus flytrap mini bog. One vft in particular was of interest to me as it had been almost totaly distroyed by a fungal attack earlier in the year and was just now recovering. To my dismay, the plant had been dug up with no trace of...

    Dividing p x weser

Hello, My remaining Px weser has several small growth underneath the largest growth. How do I separate these? Is it advisable to repot the plant now when it's growing carnivorous leaves? Then again, I was told that in my tropical climate, the Pings never produce winter leaves, so when should be...

So, after a few weeks of speratic work, the first draft is done.  Sorry, my editor hasn't looked at it yet so their may be like a million typos and bad spell-checker words, but I'd like to here your comments and sugestions so I can get...

    Drosera villosa ssp. ascendens

Of all the Brasilian Drosera, this is one of the most stunning in color and form. After communicating with Fernando Rivadavia, I feel assured this is likely the material collected from the Serro Do Caparao. I have found the plants to be somewhat tempermental regarding fungal presence, but they...

Sphagnum moss vs sphagnum peat moss

Don't confuse sphagnum moss with sphagnum peat moss. Sphagnum moss and sphagnum peat moss are not the same product. Sphagnum moss is used in the floral industry to line wire baskets and make wreaths. It is the LIVING moss that grows on top of a sphagnum bog. Sphagnum peat moss is used as a soil...

    Orchid care sheet

CATTLEYA KAT-lee-uh Cattleyas are among the most popular Orchids. Their culture is often used as the basis for comparison with other types of Orchids. Cattleyas and their related hybrids come in many colors, shapes, forms and sizes. Culture varies only slightly among most of these. This sheet...

    Sarracenia demise

Need some advice for a failing Sarracenia hybrid....parentage unknown, but along the lines of S. leucophylla x purpurea. The plant is a mature plant that I have had for 3-4 years and has been growing fantastically over this period. It has flowered each spring and puts on good sized pitchers and...

    Re: cleary 3336

Ok, I got Cleary 3336 from this site because I noticed fungal infections here and there on my plants, both carnivorous and noncarnivorous. Can I just dilute each bag with 1 gallon of distilled water, throw the solution into a spray bottle, and start spraying whatever I want to kill or prevent...

    Transplanting

With spring approaching (slowly) my plants are perking up and growing. Some of my droserae are now a couple of years old, and it is time for some transplanting and upkeep. My half dollar sized D. dielsiana in its 4 inch pot had roots fully 8 inches long: 4 of them, and thicker than pencil lead...

    Devestation

Well, as many of you know I have been very busy of late, and I finally had time tonight to wipe the dew from the inner wall of my terrarium, only to behold devestation. There is a massive fungal infestation in my terrarium, it's horrible. Tonight, I clipped about pitchers that were a week ago...
