Dionaea Dentate, Dente, and Dentate Traps, are ALL the same. When a plant from a Red Piranha (example) has germinated, even if it looks Identical to the mother. It is NOT a Red Piranha. Just because a leaf is turning black means nothing, it is part of the natural growth cycle for the Dionaea. If...
Well, I too have succumbed to the lure of java for my Nepenthes -- this after talking to a number of people whom I respect, both on this forum, and some others who have also sworn by it. Like those before me, I have simply poured cool coffee (made with RO water) through the media, as I would a...
Hey All,
So in January I repotted ALL of my Pinguicula and a few other. I use a mix that has a peat:vermiculite: perlite. I don't remember my ratio but, I think I may have used that crummy perlite that Miracle Grow puts out with fertilizers in. I honestly can't remember and I haven't been home...
So the kind Drew offered to give me a bundle of spatulatas and it will be my 1rst :-O. But my concerns arise when I dont have the proper equipment, he tells me he uses some heat lamps which i won't have, Drew advices me to give them sunlight everyday to maintain light nutrient levels but...
I decided to do a little un-scientific experiment regarding fertilization of Sarracenia seedlings. I have some wild-collected S. purpurea seeds from two different locations in WI, roughly 120 miles apart. So I figured I'd fertilize one of them and not the other, using a Miracid solution as a...
Is there anything I can put on my flytraps to help them out? I remember reading about something a while back. Where the plants are at currently they are likely to see few to zero bugs hardly ever. My small baby plants I planted a year or so ago are still pretty dang small.
Just recently I...
I have today off and thought I would snap a few shots:

Alright this is for the headbangers...or anyone interested. Heavy metal music BOOSTS the growth and SIZE of PLANTS. Mythbusters did an experiment using peas isolating several groups in separate greenhouses. Each group (minus the control which just had natural greenhouse conditions) had a set...
Hi I own a n.miranda and it's not clear how to take care of it. I did some reasearch and I would like you to correct me if needed .
It's placed under 1 t5 tube. The ambient humidity is 65-70%. The temperature is constantly of 24 (75F) degrees. I have a fan set on moving cycle. I will water it...
To all who fertilize neps via pitcher, what fertilizer do you use?
20-14-13 Better-Gro Orchid Plus at quarter strength worked well in the soil (minus the algae problem it caused regardless of how much I flushed), but putting the fertilizer into the pitchers, while the results were fantastic...
Fellow forumers,
I've been growing CP for 7 years, but just now I'm starting to grow utricularia. I'm looking for peat to use (which I never used before...I've just grown Nepenthes, and generally stayed away from peat), but the only brand I can find (in the US) is MiracleGro Peat -- and the...
I fertilized my Nep two Tuesdays ago, flushed it with a lot of water a couple days later, and now I'm looking at the pot and I see some "growth" on there. I assume it's harmless but I wanted to check with you guys first because my gut instinct is to repot and use less soil to I can flush the pot...
Taking it easy today so snapped a few photos as the sun was darting in and out of rain clouds.
Something new..
N. ampullaria red x sibuyanensis Looking good. I think these will be even nicer than the new N. amp red x ventricosa recently released. (close up of a seedling)
N. veitchii x...

I have a Cephalotus growing on my windowsill, but it's not the healthiest right now. I can't feed it any bugs because it only has a few immature pitchers and non-carnivorous leaves.
I would like to apply some fertilizer to the Cephalotus. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, how often do I...
There have been some threads about this in the past, and on other forums, but I tested the water with my highland Truncata, and have now moved onto watering all my plants with some cold coffee after seeing these results. This leaf unfolded about 1.5-2 months after I watered the plant with...
Today i was at tony avent's nursery. I bought 2 sarrs, ladybug and doodlebug (well my dad bought the doodlebug) and i was talking to him about cps, mostly sarrs. there were 2 things he said that i never knew.
1. i lose most of my plants over winter. the problem could be too much watering...
he...
I would like to try my hand at producing some Nepenthes seed, and I was wondering if I could get a confirmation on this Izumiae x Truncata. I used to cut all my flower stalks off because I didn't have the space/time for seeds, but now I wish to give it a shot. If this is in fact female, I should...
MODERATOR NOTE:
ive never heard of this issue with max sea before
everyone ive seen who has used it, had great results.
maybe your using it in too high of a concentration?
and i wouldnt entirely blame max sea on this, maybe your conditions arent the best for these highlanders?
