    The Phoenix Effect

Back from dormancy some of my Drosera trinervia have regained or surpassed their pre-dormancy growth sizes. Once again I let the medium dry out completely for at least four weeks. Dormancy started maybe six weeks or more later than usual. You wouldn't know that a little over two weeks ago...

    Hyper-convex traps - help

I went out today to check on my traps (the last time I checked on them had been 3 days ago to water them, which typically lasts 3 days), and I saw some bizarrely shaped traps. I have about 40 individual plants in two different water trays. Below is a picture of a problem that is very wide spread...

    beneficial bugs ID

http://www.uiweb.uidaho.edu/so-id/entomology/Benefical_Insects.htm Some of the photos were replaced if not the best quality. Indiscriminately dousing plants with harsh insecticides whenever a bug is seen near your plants will also kill many of the these bugs. Neem is good to use. The bug...

    Heliamphora looking rumpled; advice?

Hey there gang, first post on the forum; need some help. I've been having pretty good luck with my heli as a first-time grower up until today - I noticed 3 of the pitchers are looking rumpled and shabby. I was surprised, as so far it's been doing really very well, lots of new growth in the 3-4...

    Help me ID this pest

Ok, looks like another phase in the never ending pest wars for me. It never ends - as soon as I think I've got the upper hand, I find a new bug. I just finished an epic battle with mites that lasted several months. Thought I'd enjoy a break, but nope. Today I see tons of these little things...

Dormancy, dying / dead, or just need more time?

Some time back I had an aphid infestation. I dug up all my woolys, rubbed em underwater in a tank, and left them soaking in a tank for an hour. I repotted everything in sphagnum + perlite and placed them in a terrarium under 16 hours of light daily. 10,000 lux. Here's a pictoral update of them...

    Weird growth; sorta extreme clumping

My VFTs seem to have clumped like crazy. In the beginning of summer, they were normal VFTs, but then made lots of offshoots, and some strange deformed traps. Here's the bigger one, which was only one plant when it came out of dormancy. And the smaller one, which came as an offshoot from...

    What is your hardiest plant?

In the fall, I was moving things around in my garage and noticed something odd in a bone-dry plant box that had housed some D. capensis a couple of months earlier. It had gone neglected and I never bothered to empty it out after transplanting. Well, there was a little speck of green poking up...

Ladybugs as pest control (not for CPs obviously :))... any experiences?

I know a lot of you guys are into bugs as well as bug-eating plants (ironically! ;)) sooooo.... My poor little container garden is starting to get a nasty aphid infestation :P so I'm considering ordering a package of ladybugs to help control them. I heard somewhere that a little dish soap in...

How to properly use a systemic insecticide on VFTs?

Alright so the aphids are back and they’re not alone. The ants and aphids are taking full advantage of their symbiotic relationship on my VFTs. I have tried spraying them off, drowning them; I even moved the fortress away from the ant trial it was neighboring, but no luck! New traps are now...
