What can susbstitute peat moss???

Peat moss is one of the most usual medium used for most CPs, but since its not available here in our country, we use coco products like cocopeat/cocochips for nepenthes. So can these coco products also be used as medium for other CPs like drosera, dionaea muscipula, pinguicula and sarracenia? Has anyone tried substituing coco products with any of these CPs? What's the result? Any other possible substitutes?

Thanks

Melvin

I wouldn't use coconut fiber for any application where it stays submerged in water for more than a few hours. Cocofiber is pretty tough, but it rots fast when it's totally waterlogged. You might want to look into something like sand or ceramic chips. It'd be different than peat as it doesn't have the same water-retaining ability, but for Drosera and other plants that are kept in standing water all the time, I don't think the difference is insurmountable.
