Villosa's Bow Building debut

CN

BANNED
Well Here he is as i was told last night he had a Native American Projcet for school . He asked me to help him Build a Bow ,An being we have such short time to build a Plains Indian Bow I chose Willow as it will dry much much faster but it is a very very spongy wood so not a good shooter . Any How here is the Bowyer Now .
Drum Roll.............

Picked out a tree (Hickory for a Later Project)

Looking for a good center

The cut . We Chose the bow to be 36" inches because most Bows shot from Horse Back were very short

After cutting the Stave to Length . He drew the shape of the bow an is now centering his lines .

At this stage things happen very fast he is removing lots of wood very quickly This is called Roughing out. We Stopped here for the day to give the Stave a day to loose some moisture.

nice :) hope it comes out well and he gets an A on the project. he better, looks like hes putting some hard work into it! keep it up!

:0o:

I can't wait to see it finished! I have often wanted to make a bow, but lacked, well, lots of stuff, including motivation.

28 years on the rez, the natives i know that bow hunt used compounds, do know a few white boys that use a stick and string though.......mostly though the natives prefer something like a 30-06

neat project though......if he is seriously interested in this stuff there are a couple magazines, Primitive Archer and Traditional Bowhunter that can be found on most newsstands with a good selection of hunting mags....Backwoodsman is another good one about making outdoor stuff yourself and the like....
