Sugar Land Springtime (pics)

Last summer's heat and drought was unkind to the plants and the winter dropped below zero. Didn't seem to faze their spring awakening though.

Took these shots with my phone after some extensive weeding. I wish the Sarracenias were redder but in this location, they only get 12 PM to sunset so we'll see as the year progresses. Big blue bog was constructed with Canadian peat moss, sand, and lots of pine needles. Please take a peek.

heh yea, my mix is really simple. Just those 3 things. The pine needles were an added bonus since they seem to be everywhere I see wild plants grow. I was trying really hard to acidify my bogs....but for those who were wondering, dont' ever try this with vinegar! Obviously this idiot did and 1/3 of his plants died...including 4 other P. planifolias which were my favorite. I basically added weed killer to their leaves.

your plants look great. I wish that I could get mine to grow that nice. Do you leave them outdoors year round?

thanks everyone for the comments. I do keep them outdoors year round. This winter got especially cold for the Houston area so I laid some hay over the plants to help insulate.

I usually try to have some organization with how i plant them, but more often than not they all become minibogs that contain all varieties of plants, ie. I see filiformis seedlings in all the pots i have.
