schultz aquatic plant soil as aggregate?

I am growing some U. gibba with aps as the bottom media for about 3 months and seems to be doing fine. No washing of the APS for me ever.

I have been looking for this stuff (APS) for the last 2 or 3 years at our local Lowe's and Home Depot, but no luck.

Try a real nursery / greenhouse.
