I finally received an email that the villosa will be shipping shortly, I didn't mind waiting considering the weather here in the Midwest. I can think of no better reason to get that cooling chamber than getting this plant.
Don't worry, I can't wait to crow in color. Since villosa is so excruciatingly slow growing I will be using a thermal wine cooler for a while for the small handful of cold loving neps. I am expecting a plant around the size of a dime.
Here it is, arrived this afternoon and is a little bigger than I expected. After potting and shooting pictures and as with all new arrivals I placed the bottom of a small Pepsi bottle over the top and after a few days until it gets used to the new environment the cover comes off:
Nepenthes villosa
The nep in the upper left corner of this picture is the diatas with a new pitcher.
Thank you and the German shop has them available again for anyone wanting one.
It's about 1.3" across and yes, I was expecting a dime size plant. Sure is green isn't it, now I will see if I can keep it that way. Next stop is for a wine cooler and I am specifically shopping for one that provides a 45 degree capable minimum. I think I found one that a 2.5 gallon aquarium will fit in so I can maintain 100% humidity without icing up the cooling chip. If it doesn't work then I will try a dorm fridge and will worry about plant size a few years from now.
I bought mine about 2 months ago (also from germany) and it turned out they were actually 2 plants together so split them up and now I have 2 N. villosa that are both growing and going strong
It is exactly what I needed, it is in my room with ac since the ambient temps effect it's performance. Yanked the shelves out and since the 5 gallon aquarium is a little too wide and the 2.5 gallon one is too small I just sit the plants inside using glass furniture coasters to catch drips and plastic drink cups over the top. After spraying the inside of the cups and placing them over the plant all 5 go into the box and maintain 100% humidity all night in the 50 degrees of the cooler.
cpbobby, I'm only watching that auction out of curiosity, it looks like it might git $400 or maybe $500 and there are always the snipers waiting in the wings. I plan to watch the last minute to see how it turns out. $365 last time I looked.
