I need more space

They aren't as efficient. I use them on a VHO ballast. They don't last as long when overdriven but BOY are they bright!

Ok, I see. Does "not as effecient" mean that they're not as good for the plants as T8?

Nope. They aren't that great. They are more efficient because they are smaller,have higher lumens per watt output, and consume less power.

T8's only run on a electronic ballast (that in itself is more efficient.)

Hmm, ok. It's just the only ballasts they sell are for T12 bulbs, at least ballasts meant to hold 40 watt 2' bulbs.
