Charcoal & Cephs

Hi,
i recently aquired a ceph leaf cutting that is rooted and is sending out a small leaf.
I'm going to place it in the "Charles Brewer Mix" but was wondering what to do about charcoal. I couldn't find any horticultural charcoal anywhere, but i read posts on here saying that lump charcoal is actually the same thing that comprises horticultural charcoal.
I've heard charcoal isn't necessary, but want to give it a shot.
The lump charcoal i have is in large chunks. I'm going to break it down, but should I leave it in tiny chunks or grind it into a powder?
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
Aaron

It's really not necessary. All you need is good, clean drainage, so use something else like perlite, pumice, lava rock, gravel, turkey grit, or whatever you have lying around.

I use horticultural charcoal in tiny chunks for a couple of mine.
