Genlisea violacea "caraca" has arrived today!!!
It is REALLY small, well, because the guy gave me a cutting for free! But, Im still surprised, its tiny! I put it in a big-ish pot
so it can spread its roots and leves. The plant is less than one centimetre across. If anybody has any tips, I will...
Im going to get a piece of Genlisea violacea.
Will it root without problems?
The soil will be 2:1. 2 parts peat, one part perlite.
Is this O.K?
The person who is giving me the piece said that peat and
a bit of perlite is really good.
And how do I look after it?
It will be on a desk next to a...
Hi. I have a g. lobata x violacea. When I first grew it for some time, all of the leaves died except the ones starting to pop out in the middle. then these began to grow. Since my light went out, some have have gotten bigger, but basically it is not growing. What light does this plant require...
My Genlisea lobata x violacea flower a while ago but the flower aborted , since then , the flower scape is still there and now its forming another scape on this scape , but the weird thing about this is that the new scape looks like its forming roots at the bottom . Is this normal , or is it...

Here is a picture of a G. violacea that I have been growing for about nine months. I did not realize how fragile it was at the time and accidently broke it off from the plant.
I thought you all might be interested in seeing a list of what is possible to see down under. Does anyone know if any of the species on the first list are in cultivation, and if so which ones and how do I get you to send me some of them >;-I)>
Species on the second part of the list I have seen...
Hi,
Does G. violacea grow adult leaves immediately after germination? The reason I'm asking is that I'm used to droseras where the first leaves don't have traps. I am also surprised that the leaf is rather large too, approx. 5 mm.
Regards,
Christer
Hi All,
I've been growing this plant for a looong time, and have given/traded away numerous offspring (through leaf cuttings). Most of the recipents had their plants flower within a few months... my mother plant continued to sit there unfloweringly.
That was, until a few weeks ago, when a...
Suddenly every one of my Genlisea species are putting up scapes (except the smallest starts). I wonder why, and if it is photoperiod related. Anyone know when these plants flower in habitat? It is spring in Brasil, and I guess this is when they would flower, but the days are getting longer...
Hey,
It took about a month or two, but my g.violacea cuttings have sprouted. I always heard they were a bit more difficult to take than others (has anyone else heard this?), but the only difference between the violacea and the violacea X lobata is that the V x L didnt take as long to sprout...
I received some seed from Fernando Rivadavia and Robert Gibsons collection in Diamantina last August, and I am pleased to report the seed has germinated, and with ease. I have a carpet of Genlisea violacea growing. Wow!
I see people sharing their methods for growing Genlisea in another thread, so I thought I would chip in. I have never had any problem growing them, except for the fact that I find it necessary to transplant them if I want growth to continue. I believe this is similar to Utrics where its good to...
I have been wanting to try growing Genlisea for quite a while now, but I would like to choose my first plant carefully. Are there any experienced growers out there who would like to throw there $0.02 in as to which is the best species with which to start. I'm not an inexerienced grower of other...
