So i bought a nice new flowering plant the other day(amaryllis family), and yesterday, I noticed some thin squiggly little guys in the flowers, one flower in particular, there were 5-7 of em. small (1, 1.5mm max) blackish color, thin like the end of a pinhead, and the wiggle forewards. it was a...
can neem oil be used for all the normal pests? such as mealy bugs, mites and such? does it have any effect on sphagnum? on nepenthes, drosera, sarracenia, dionaea? anything else i should know about?
would this be good?
I found the other threads about raising them here, but neither of them specifically address this issue.
I found a great site about raising them:
http://www.sialis.org/raisingmealworms.htm
And it does mention these pests. I have had problems with these in rice and cereals before. Indian Meal...
I have a nepenthes alata 'Boschiana Mimic' that is suffering from some pest. I have sprayed it twice with ortho systemic insecticide, covering the leaves and the undersides of the leaves. The pest are still her and look like they are spreading.

Hello all,
The next NECPS meeting will be held on Saturday, November 8 at 12:30pm at the RWP Botanical Center, Providence, RI.
There will be plants on display and a silent auction.
The meeting program is: "Bog Cleaning." The bog has paid off in spades--the staff love it, visitors are amazed...
Yesterday, I noticed that a few of the Heliamphora that I am growing outside had suffered damage to -- or the outright removal of some of their nectar spoons. I recall seeing similar damage to Heliamphora plants in the wild in the 1990s, due to wasps or bees who chewed through the spoons to get...
I haven't had too many pests this year with my plants usually just baby spiders making webs over my picter plant opening one time catching any flys that try to go in, but it seems recently there's these tiny bugs not sure what they are they seem to only go on my dente flytrap haven't notice any...
So even though it's summer, some of my true highland plants are pretty happy.
Here's N. lowii (ep clone c)
My big N. macrophylla fell on hard times last year, and struggled with pests, repotting, and moving around too much. However, it's come back pretty well. Not only is the main stem again...
I noticed these before in my pot of some drosera seedlings and I didn't think it was a big deal, but there's more than before and I'm a bit worried. They're small, the biggest being probably about 1mm long. They hop too, and when I blow on the soil they crawl around. I don't think they're worms...
Here are some pics of a couple of my shelves of neps:
Here's a peak at my shelf of seedlings:
After a long period of struggles including pests, my N. macrophylla is back to growing properly and has bestowed upon me a new pitcher:
And my N. flava has made its first pitcher in my care...
I have seriously tried just about everything to make this guy perk up and nothing is working. I know it will grow as an intermediate supposedly but not under my conditions... so, I moved it into my lowland tank. It started to take off like crazy but now all of a sudden it looks like this...

Every yr my daughters and i do a Burrowing Wolf spider count and check up to see how many we have on the property males/females, what color they are, how many females make it to raise young and how many actualy make it to the end of fall. We do these counts 3 times a yr, once at the end of April...
I just went to target yesterday and found a systematic insecticide called Triazicide. It says that it will control pests for up to 2 months and that it won't harm plants. Does anyone know if it works and/or if there is any reason not to use it. It comes in one of those little spray bottles...
I received a number of plants late last year from a dealer (and no one on this forum -- really) and had the idle notion of simply isolating them from the other plants for a short time. Little did I realize then, but many of the items in the shipment were infested with aphids and one with aphids...
Ant trouble--Pictures!
I have an ant problem:
I need to get rid of these pests! I know, there are gonna be some people out there who say that "there cool, don't kill them," and I agree, I've had lots of fun whatcing them, especally there realationship with the predators in my artificial...
Some of my sarracenia are not doing so hot, and most of the ones not doing great are from one nursery which is not as widely advertised but I did hear they had nice plants and there was a sticker on the box saying the nursery had been inspected and found free of dangerous plant pests/diseases...
Ok, so i just noticed these tiny white bugs on the stalk part of my D. Capnesis. They are too small to take pictures of but it is growing out of some U. Sandersonii. It seems like they are ruining the health of the plant... I'm super new to CP's, I have no clue what to do!
Hello gang -
I have yet to get a N. but have been reading a lot about them. My question is mainly about pests. Basic question, but I am paranoid due to all of the threads about plants being ruined by all of the pests out there (search function started the nightmare), so now when I am looking...
I have a question regarding my young purp. When I received it, the purp was producing young, immature seedling-type pitchers (it was about 2 years old).
As the growing season got underway, it finally began to produce mature-looking pitchers, although they were obviously small. The mature...
