    Heliamphora info

The Marsh Pitcher Plants (Heliamphora sp.) By Alex Dietrick From the sandstone plateaus in Venezuela and Guyana, come a fascinating genus of carnivorous plants. South America’s only pitcher plant, Heliamphora is very primitive, but elegant in design. The trap seems to consist of...

    Seaweed extract

Is it safe to use as a foliar feed? I plan on using a q-tip to apply fertilizer to the leaves.  I can't find the recommended orchid fertilizers at the moment and the seaweed extract has worked well for me with other plants as a foliar and root feed.

    Pale n. mira

I have a small N. mira that has been through the war. It got overly cold or flooded or something last fall outside, and then had a bad case of scale. I sprayed for the scale and picked off what i could, and have it under good light with the rest of my highlands. Although the plant has produced...

    Foliar feeding

My pot of Pinguicula moranensis is obviously a good deal away from being healthy enough to consider fertilizing them (I want them to reestablish their roots and commence healthy growth in their new homes), but what do all of you use to fertilize your pings?  Or do you even bother to fertilize...

    New member--nepenthes questions

Hello all, I am new to this forum, and I'm really impressed by the volume of information amassed by this group. I recently (2mo ago) bought two Nepenthes (gracilis & coccinea) and I have a few questions about them. They are doing ok for now, and coccinea is even producing new pitchers (but...

    Tillandsia care

Tillandsia, or as some people call them, bromeliads, air plants, are pretty easy to care for as long as they stay in more than 35-40% humidity. They like a nice misting every few days, and for the most part grow the best in my lowland nep tank. (70*-90*F) I foliar feed them once or twice a...

    Magnesium sulfate anyone?

I have sprayed my orchids with a low dose of MgS otherwise known as Epsom salts to counteract the constant use of R/O and distilled water. What I'm wondering is if any of you long time Nep growers have noticed a need for applying this as a foliar spray on occasion?

    VFT Food

Hi all.  I'm new here.  I'm looking for foods that my single VFT will eat, besides live insects.  I've tried dried blood worms and dried Gammarus shrimps - the traps close and open again in a day or two.  Are egg whites (boiled, I assume) acceptable?  What about foliar feeding?  Anybody know of...
