A couple of questions come to mind that I've been wondering for a while...
1. Is there such a thing as a lowland plant that tolerates and grows well in minimal humidity without a lengthy acclimation process? I have never ever had a lowland plant do well for me (except hirsuta) because of my...

I was out on a walk today, and discovered that a hydroponics store had opened near where I live, and discovered to my joy that they carry Maxsea 16-16-16, which a lot of people seem to be investigating for the purpose of fertilizing their neps.
Now, I have a small nep, so I picked a jug of the...
There have been some threads about this in the past, and on other forums, but I tested the water with my highland Truncata, and have now moved onto watering all my plants with some cold coffee after seeing these results. This leaf unfolded about 1.5-2 months after I watered the plant with...
I taped a coffee filter to the perimeter of a coffee cup and poured the 10 % bleach solution of seeds through.
The water can be poured out the side while holding in the seeds. Rinse and repeat, until most of the bleach scent is gone. There is one seed where the purple dye is visibly trailing.
Hello All,
Being cursed as an "early bird" and usually up with coffee in hand before sunrise, I couldn't resist snapping a few photos of one of my Drosophyllum right before sunrise...
The greenhouse was steamy and humid with the occasional dripping sound from condensation to break the silence...

Whale dreck was a substance they had leftover and no use for when they cooked down whales after whaling. I just bought a bag of "Kona Blend" Coffee by "High Mountain Kona" or some such brand and brewed a cup straightaway. It was absolutely terrible, hence my new term "coffee dreck". :D
The girl...

I got an Email from a forum friend about the uses of coffee filters:
Coffee filters -- not just for making coffee! And you can purchase 1,000 at the Dollar Store for almost nothing.
1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers to prevent...
Hey guys,
Here are some updated pics of my plants. :)
N.bicalcarata: the pitcher on the left in the background is a little over an year old. The one in focus is the latest one. This newest one is around the size of a coffee cup...if I may say so. The plant has a diameter of a little over a...
I'm curious if anyone else here drinks Yerba Mate (mah-tay)? Sometimes called "Paraguayan tea" (though it's said to be Argentina's national drink) made from the Ilex paraguariensis tree. I received 4 bags of various brands today, one brand is shown below but it's not my pic. I've tried two of...
I got this in an email today:
"London Times Obituary of the late Mr. Common Sense
'Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who
has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was,
since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape...
I almost did a spit-take with the morning's coffee, having received a link from a friend to some US dealers (who shall remain nameless) offering tiny Nepenthes macrophylla in four-inch pots for 250.00 (my apologies for a bit of an exaggeration -- it was only 249.95).
When I purchased mine, it...
What may seem obvious to experienced growers may be of some benefit to those just starting out . . .
I have found over the years that the utilization of live sphagnum, whether as a component in composts or simply as a top-dressing, offers several benefits to carnivorous plants, one of the...
