Hey Everyone -
We had another NECPS first on Saturday; more plants for auction than for display. Two Tables crammed FULL of Silent Auction Loot!:

I recently acquired a piece of property and while clearing it I uncovered a really cool looking tree, about 20' tall, looks like an Acacia sp. me???, But this is Wa. state so it is probably not an Acacia. The cool thing about this tree is that it has thorns over an inch long and it is kinda...
Hi everybody,
Good to hear there are some rockhounds about CP's ain't big here in South Africa, but rocks are a different story. If anyone wants to swap rocks for plants all you have to do is PM me. I am part of the PGMC Pretoria Gem and Mineral Club and the first Saturday of the month we...
SELECTED READINGS IN DROSERA
Compiled by William "Tamlin" Dawnstar
I have been asked often enough for some pertinent “scientific” literature regarding the genus Drosera. The following is a very non-academic compilation taken from notes, jottings and the like. I hope some of it proves useful...

Selected Readings in Drosera: A Bibliography

was sorting some of my photos yesterday, and found a nice pic of Utricularia bisquamata 'Betty's Bay':
The history of this plant is that I collected some unknown Utric seed heads from (literally) the back garden of a friend's house in Betty's Bay, near Hermanus, South Africa around December...
Don't bother reading this unless you have some care or concern about what you have in your collection as concerns it's true ID. This is a long topic.
Anyone growing material labelled Drosera "Sp. Chapada Diamantina" sold or distributed as a valid species from Brasil should be aware that...
<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>Mold, fungus, and other microbes are intrinsic to growing anything outside of aseptic culture. My fungicide: is to give the plants the best environment I am capable of. I invite the natural process involving microorganisms. The only natural processes...
Thanks everyone for this contribution. Pyro recently wrote this up for your viewing pleasure ;)
Hey all, we seem to have created a huge massive mess out of the old topic so at Ram_Puppy’s request I have cleaned and hacked and made this a bit more readable. It is about that time of year again...
I just placed an order for First Field Guide to Parasitic and Carnivorous Plants of Southern Africa by John, Dr Manning. The ad for it didn't describe the book at all. Any idea what the book covers?
I also ordered Last of the Head Hunters. A photographic and encyclopedic type book on Ifugo head...
Hey all, we seem to have created a huge massive mess out of the old topic so at Ram_Puppy’s request I have cleaned and hacked and made this a bit more readable. It is about that time of year again and we expect a lot of first timers coming in and posting questions on dormancy, that's GREAT as...
I don't have either one of these little guys yet...but I keep examing pics I see online. I'm wondering if these two species names are synonyms? Does anyone have both or one?
The flower structure I see looks remarkably similar to bisquamata also...are they from S. Africa too?
I'm curious as to...
Another pic out of my greenhouse shows the large flowered form of U. bisquamata from South Africa. I like this plant very much as a companion for my D. admirabilis and D. cuneifolia pots:
Enjoy it!
Stefan
Hi, just wanted to let you all know that pics of some of the 6 new species from South Africa are available on the G.P.F Forum.
Go to G.P.F Forum and look for:
D. afra, D. coccipetala, D. longiscapa and D. liniflora.
I really liked the picture of D. coccipetala, a very unusual flower.
Anyone here in Africa or know anyone in or going to Africa? There are some really interesting CP there....
Please email me through my website below. Thanks,
SundewMatt
My neighbor from South Africa is a lithops grower (he inherited a farm with lots of nice kinds), and he emailed me wanting to start importing plants.
If there are any Southern African Drosera, or anything else anyone wants, make a list, and let's see what we can do. Lots of those growers are...
well i just read the icps listserver e-mail and from what i just read that one of many populations of Byblis gigantea in south africa has just been destroyed due to building of mansions on Table Mountain.
sorry to hear about this but, i thought other people would want to know.
Recent posts on the CP listserve were in regard to some of our members reliance on spoon fed advice, when, with a little effort the information can be had from a good websearch; these comments about "lazy" newbies have made me a little wroth. (Wroth is the pleasant way of saying *moderated by...
