Looks like it might be a spot of fungus on top of the soil? If that's the case, I don't think you have much to worry about. Just remove it.
It's a little hard to tell what it is from the picture though... Please elaborate and/or get better pictures if you can...
 
don't worry about it. Stuff is dying and rotting all the time. if the rest of the plant is in good health it wont spread or become an issue. just remove it if you don't like it
 
Hey guys, so it turns out the plant was infected quite a bit. It looks like fungus to me so is it wise to assume a sulphur based product would remedy this?
