I live in the Vikings home state (MN) but I don't pay any attention to that stuff, except what's pressed on me by the news media.

I love real viking stuff though, swords, axes, helmets, off-key bardic hymns, norse mythology, Norwegian black metal...That's entertainment!

That's Kirk Douglas doing his own stunts in the "oar walking" scene. Director Richard Fleischer said he was better than the professional stunt men. The oar broke in the take they used for the movie. Douglas' recovery was so spontaneous they kept the take.
