Sphagnum Moss?

Hey, my first post on the boards, have been lurking for a while but decided to finally sign up.

Just wondering what the difference is from Sphagnum Moss and Sphagnum PEAT Moss as I seem only to be able to find Sphagnum Moss where I live in England.

Also for anyone english, whats a good price for Sphagnum Moss?

I've seen prices at £5 a kilo to £37 for 25 kilos.

Need some help on the best place and price to buy at.

Thanks

Sphagnum moss is the actual moss plant and sphagnum peat is primarily decayed sphagnum.

5 pounds a kilo is a very good price if it's dry. So is 37 pounds for 25 kilos if it's dry. I can't imagine anyone needing 25 kilos (about 50 pounds!) of it unless they grew nepenthes in bulk. Just buy it at your local hardware superstore (like Lowes or Homedepot if you have them in the UK).

Welcome, by the way.

Hi

Try searching for Sphagnum Moss Peat in independent garden centres. Places like B&Q have a no peat policy.

If searches fail, Long Fiber Sphagnum will likely work fine for you VFTs. I grow many if not most of my fly traps in pure LFS. Here is an example. this i about a 1 gallon bucket (about 10" -12" across) of LFS undrained where I put smaller VFTs that don't "deserve" their own pot or leaf pullings... You can see they grow up healthy just fine in here. (My avatar picture is also a trap from this container)
