Something to do with used CP mix

I wander around general gardening blogs a lot, and one of the topics that comes up every now and then is hypertufa, the super-light-weight concrete substitute that people shape into various kinds of custom containers for their plants. Looking at a typical recipe (this one from Wikipedia), it sure looks like a good way to use up old CP mix (particularly if you use perlite instead of sand).

  • 3 parts Type I Portland cement
  • 4 parts Sphagnum
  • 5 parts perlite
(I always hate tossing any perlite mix into the garden because of all the little white perlite floaters that go everywhere and look like a styrofoam bomb went off...)

PS: I'd add that I wouldn't use any of these containers for CPs since the containers would be pretty alkaline. But there are other plants in the world. Really.

Very cool. I will certainly give this a try sometime!

you could seal it with pool seal or epoxy paint etc and use it with cps
