NASC auction is OPEN!!

Sarrs in CO

Turns out, the up-and-down temps of our normal spring weather is nearly as bad as just trying to keep them indoors...I've lost my prized SG flava rubricorpora, most of my psittacina and all minor, 'Leah W' x 'Leigha S' clone A, and a few others since things started waking up. Thank God, "Queen of the Night" still lives, but it's having a hard time getting appropriately developed pitchers out. There will be a mass repotting this fall...

But some things came through with no cares at all and are early to the pitcher game:

This plant, in particular, has become a monster:

S. rubra Brunswick Co. NC by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr

Turns out there are still some issues in outdoor growing around here that need working out; the hard freezes of winter may have killed older exposed parts of rhizomes, which something started munching on and spread to the live parts of some plants.
Some of the old reliables though, and a lot of seedlings of all things, are staying strong

Definitely like the late summer pitcher flushes

Still the most excited about this one...
S. flava "Pastel" x Faulisi Blackwater atro by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
And need to get new shots of these because the color has evolved significantly

The one and only leuco seedling that survived last winter, and it is WHITE
S. leucophylla Splinter Hill Bog AL by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Leah Wilkerson' x 'Mega Mouth' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
This cross is truly setting up to be spectacular. Not only color, but the traps are chunky

Part 2 momentarily...

Turns out there were many more losses than I thought over winter, pretty much all of them among the bigger plants...my Devorah, Plum x Snowflake, Night Sky x Adrian Slack crosses, dammit...

On the other hand, all the seedlings seem happy to take over
S. leucophylla "Giant Autumn Pitchers, CK" x flava "Pastel" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. leucophylla "Giant Autumn Pitchers, CK" x flava "Pastel" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Incredible contrast that two direct siblings can sport...same parentage but so completely disparate
S. leucophylla "Giant Autumn Pitchers, CK" x flava "Pastel" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. x readei "Alabama Red" x 'Dan Winter' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Perhaps the best flava I have in the pool right now, and it's only 6 inches tall if that
S. flava "Pastel" x Faulisi Blackwater by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S flava "Huge Lid, Heavy Veins Turning Red" x "Heavy Veins" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. (oreophila x "Don's Red Tube") C x (oreophila x "Blood Moon") B by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Similar case, the above plant got all the color and the height...but this one got the girth
S. (oreophila x "Don's Red Tube") C x (oreophila x "Blood Moon") B by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. "flava ornata" x (('leah Wilkerson' x oreophila) x "Bengal Tiger" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr

Among the few adult plants that really didn't give a damn about winter:
S. oreophila "North Sound" x purpurea "Giant #1" HC D by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Eric Green's OP Mix" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Cyclops' x 'Edojiman' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. flava Virginia by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. flava "ornata, Improved" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
And more seedlings
S. ((x swaniana x 'Scarlet Belle') x oreophila) x "Lunch Box" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Red Sumatra' OP x flava cuprea by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Red Sumatra' OP x flava cuprea by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr

:'( Sorry to hear about the mass losses. It's nice to have seedling to turn your attention to. The variance within the same seedpod can be surprising!

Most of these now look a little cruddier now that they've been repotted a bit, and that it's middle of the summer high heat...but befroe repot a lot looked fairly snazzy
S. 'Leah Wilkerson' x 'Drew McClain' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Leah Wilkerson' x 'Mega Mouth' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. leucophylla x alata "black" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. leucophylla x alata "black" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Can't be seen from this angle, but this plant also has a pretty white upper lid going on
S. ((x swaniana x 'Scarlet Belle') x oreophila) x 'Lunch Box' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. (oreophila x "Don's Red Tube") x (oreophila x 'Blood Moon') by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. flava "huge lid, heavy veins turning red" x heavy veins by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. leucophylla Mobile AL x minor okefenokeensis "Phil's Clone" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
And a 2nd seedling of same cross. Most are still in the greenhouse though (soon to change)
S. leucophylla Mobile AL x minor okefenokeensis "Phil's Clone" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. leucophylla Mobile AL x minor okefenokeensis "Phil's Clone" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. alata by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Saurus' x 'Adrian Slack' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Saurus' x 'Adrian Slack' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
This cross has proven extremely variable. Some have been fairly plain, others solid dark colors...and then some with extreme veins and contrast
S. 'Saurus' x 'Adrian Slack' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Saurus' x 'Adrian Slack' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr

The fall flush continues
S. 'Saxapahaw' x leucophylla by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Saxapahaw' x leucophylla by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Seems flava "rugelii" has extremely strong undercurrent genetics within 'Adrian Slack'...because a lot of its offspring in the crosses I have currently are sporting the cutthroat appearance
S. flava (Outlaw x Faulisi Blackwater) x 'Adrian Slack' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
One of the non-seedlings...though sadly its flower decided to fail
S. rubra gulfensis THC by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
The best areolata to come out of this batch *so far* (still about 3 dozen seedlings to be moved outside)
S. leucophylla x alata "black" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
And one of those cases where siblings...
S. 'Leah Wilkerson' x 'Mega Mouth' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Are so completely divergent it's hilarious
S. 'Leah Wilkerson' x 'Mega Mouth' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Unexpected promise in this cross, lots of pod parent influence which is what I hoped for but also some notable pink areoles coming through that seems to be an effect of the father
S. (oreophila x "Blood Moon") x "Wilkerson's Red OP" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Another cross of which there are dozens of seedlings yet to be put out...but all that have are turning out spectacular
S. alabamensis wherryi x leucophylla "Original Yellow, Washington Co. AL MW" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. "Eric's OP Mix" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Cyclops' x 'Edojiman' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Whatever this plant is, it's not a rosea-primary cross like the original label suggests. Far too skinny so I've put my best guess on the real parentage instead
S. jonesii x (oreophila x rosea) by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
A seedling with serious pastel promise
S. ('Plum' x 'Snowflake') x (oreophila x "Blood Moon") by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. ('Plum' x 'Snowflake') x (oreophila x "Blood Moon") by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Hot Lips' x 'Royal Ruby' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
An extremely promising complex moorei
S. x moorei "Hot Lips" x ("Mesa Exotics" x "Super Heavy Veins") by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
And, the 'Rose has returned
S. 'Reptilian Rose' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr

More to come...

A particularly promising cross
S. 'Cherries Jubilee' x "Silver Surfer" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
With again extremely divergent siblings...but most share at least two distinctive traits: brilliant white portions of the lid, and bloody red veins
S. 'Cherries Jubilee' x "Silver Surfer" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. 'Cherries Jubilee' x "Silver Surfer" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. leucophylla Mobile AL x minor okee "Phil's Clone" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr

Bloody purple this thing is

S. "Brooks Garcia OP" x "Wilkerson's Red" OP by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. (flava rubricorpora x 'Adrian Slack') x "Lunch Box" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Might be a particular favorite right now...
S. x farnhamii ssp. bellii "Sunbelle #3" x "Lunch Box" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. leucophylla ("Purple Lips" x "Mesa Exotics") x rosea "ornate" by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. jonesii x 'Mega Mouth' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Another spectacular fav
S. 'Mega Mouth' x 'Drew McClain' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. flava 'Suspicion' backcross by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
S. flava ornata "improved" MW by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
