S.Purpurea seed.

nepenthes gracilis

Nepenthes Specialist
I have some S.Purpurea spp. Purpurea seeds and they have been in a sealed clear plastic film canister from Sept.22 2001 up to now Nov.4 2001. they were stored dry at the moment I took them out of the seed pod. They also have been in the refrigerator from the dates listed. Since they were stored dry are they still good? If they are good I would like to know how do I germinate them. Thanks alot Nep.G. ( I just don't want tolet seeds that are still good go to waste.)

keep in the fridge till Jan, then sow on a peat sand mix, lightly cover & put in cool greenhouse/outhouse with good light. should germinate come March.

Not to be a punk NG, but I thought Tony's answers were pretty clear, but that's just me!

Do you have Savage Garden? Great resource... I find myself going to if to answer a lot of your questions sometimes! You might want to consider investing a few bucks in it! Amazon has the best price I have found for it...

S. purpurea purpurea seeds need 6 - 8 weeks of stratification.  I don't grow this sub species due to my southern location as S. purpurea purpurea does require a extended cold dormancy which I can't provide.
It is best to place a string or two of moist long fiber sphagnum in with the seed while it is being cooled in the refrigerator if that is how you are stratifying them.
A longer term in stratification doesn't seem to be of any benefit.
Here is a link I think you may find of use
