Red Capensis & filiformis

Last year I was given seeds of both, from different sources and both sets germinated. The filiformis is rust colored and the capesnsis does look redder than my Albino form, but not much redder than pictures of typical that I have seen. Does anybody have pictures of the red forms to compare? Is there something about F2 that dilutes what might have been originally more red?

I don't think that D. capensis seed is true to the parent. My seed from my albinos made more typical looking plants then albinos. I know it wasn't a mix up, cause the flower on my typical right now is the first time it has flowered for me. From what I can tell I only got 3 albinos from seed compared to to many typicals to count.
Red's could be the same.

The red capensis responds to bright intense light. I have several red capensis that were almost purple when I received them, but after a while in my rather dim greenhouse, they became almost green.

Thanks, Bob. Mine, a windowsill plant, isn't nearly as vibrant as the one pictured. Is there a filiformis picture available?

I received a red capensis a while back and it was growing in my big terrarium under 80 watts of cool white light. It grew fine but stayed a dark green color. I recently moved it to one of my brighter terrariums and it seems to be putting up red leaves. I'll try to post a picture tonight.

Apparently this form only gets red when given the proper amount of intense light.

Well, here's a pic of my plant which is what I think might be D. capensis 'Red'.

This is one of my red capensis that came up as a weed with my U. sandersonii. They do revert to looking more like a typical when not in strong sunlight, but the typicals never achieve that strong red colour under the same conditions. As you can see the entire plant goes red not just the hairs and digestive glands.

Thanks again, Bob! My capensis most closely resembles the picture provided from yesterday - green stems and red tentacles. Indymental has one that is red from the stems on up.

I enjoy growing both the red variety and one I received from the seedbank as 'wide leaf' (has a wide leaf with a light green color) side-by-side. The differences between the 2 almost are striking.

Sadly, I realized after looking through my pics, that I do not have a photo showing both of them.

By "strikes" I assume you mean vegetative propagation rather than seed. If so, it will probably take a bit of time in intense light for the little guys to become red. If they are clones, they will certainly be red in time.

Hey, that's exactly the coloration I have. Geez, your collection looks like mine - filiformis, binata, primuliflora(?). Can't tell what the top left is, though.

The plant in question is sending up a flower stalk. It's sitting next to the Albino form, but that isn't doing the same. Wonder what a cross would do if I could time things right.
