Are these overstock services where you get a iPad for $30 really lugit?
Has anyone ever tried one of these sites?

Should be legit... They advertised for it on TV. As you can see on their website, they've been featured by a bunch of popular news shows. $180 for 300 bids, that's about $1.70 per bid.

So if you're interested in Quibids, here's a website that tracks each auction and organizes them for you. They will give you statistics on when to bid, how many bids the auction will take, ect. http://www.bidcentz.com/

I was curious myself so I searched around a bit. Just remember though, they have to make money somehow. It's just like a casino... You shouldn't gamble because casinos are there to make money. If they didn't bring in boatloads of cash daily, they wouldn't still be there. I would definitely research more and get exact statistics on how Quibids makes their money. Just do a simple search like, "How does Quibids make money?" They probably get their stuff dirt cheap and have deals with companies like Apple to get some iPads to sell on their website so that Apple gets promotion. So they basically buy low and sell high.

I looked around a bit.
Skimmed through some info. I do not like it.
Have to purchase bids. To sign up would cost $60.00 for your bids... Sounds like they expire after a certain amount of time if not used.....

easy..you buy bids..forget how much each bid costs. Once you place your bids, say $30 worth fro an ipad, even if you are outbid you do not get your bids back. So they keep all of it winners and losers.

They allow you to win a gift card or something small but from then on there are biders (machines) within the company who bid right before the auction ends. So you rarely win an auction.

There's always a catch to these type of sites. Sometime they make you take a test from one of their sponsors so they get paid for it or they make you pay for bidding just like quibids does. It's very risky... I wouldn't recommend it.

I doubt that last part. I have a feeling that would be illegal in some way.

JRMC, I don't think that's the case, though I wouldn't doubt they have automated bidding to increase the price. I have a friend that is constantly getting stuff off of there, but mostly gift cards - I didn't see the idea of it but he swears that he gets them at $10-15 for a $25 card.
Pretty sure ninja'ing auctions at the last minute wouldn't fly, but increasing the bids on it - very likely.

I'll stick with Ebay if I"m going to bid on things.

That is just what I have heard from people who use this site. Don"t really trust most internet shopping sites yet only the most established (Amazon, Ebay, etc.....). And occasionally other sites. I am with mylesG on this one though....
