Pitcher of the Month January 2016

1. Only ONE (1) PITCHER per member may be entered in any particular month.
2. All pictures must be taken in the month of entry into the contest.
3. All entries must be clearly identified.
4. Entries are restricted to cultivated plants.
5. Contestants may post as many times and as many pictures of their entry as they like until contest closing on 01/31/16
6. Sequential pictures showing opening of a pitcher are fine as long as all pictures are taken within the month of the contest.
7. If, for some reason, a single pitcher cannot be isolated and a group shot is necessary, then the particular pitcher entered must be clearly identified in your post.
8. Plant must have been grown by owner at least six months prior to photo.
9. Times of Contest and Poll openings and closings are to be understood as EST.
10. Judging by forum members and guests in a poll opening on 02/01/16, closing 02/05/16 and using this forum! Voting will open on top of the thread at the close of the contest submissions.

As far as I know, this is a complex N. clipeata hybrid with some degree of N. eymae in it originating from John de Kanel, but I can't get more specific than that.

This is not the single clone from Borneo Exotics.

You likely have (clipeata x maxima) x clipeata. The "eymae" turned out to be lumut maxima when the uppers presented themself.

I'm not convinced that this statement is true. The original Munich cross N. clipeata x eymae was made well before "N. eymae" was in tissue culture, and it seems that many botanical gardens received N. eymae as cuttings from Turnbull and Middleton's Sulawesi expedition in the 1980's. There is some lingering controversy about the Munich N. clipeata crosses, but it's very unlikely that Wistuba or Cantley's "N. eymae" was involved given the time frame. Even BE's single clone of N. clipeata x (clipeata x eymae) has its origins from the cross at Munich.

N. clipeata x eymae is a hybrid still in collections, at least in Germany. It is a strong viner with true uppers that do seem to be influenced by something very infundibular. I've never participated in the "pitcher of the month" competition but this pitcher looked so good I figured I might have a shot. The peristome darkens a bit more with maturity but not by much. Usually this plant keeps that soft red blush.
