Paph. ID

[Lil Stinkpot]

I just bought an out-of-bloom Paph. at the grocery store, and I'm too danged impatient to wait a few weeks for the next bud to open.

What really interested me is the way it's growing: The growing stem branches, and by the bracts and pair of old flower stems, it's a multi-bloomer. The edges of all the leaves are very fuzzy.

Whaddya think it may be? It's most likely a cross, and there is no ID tag, but I just wanted a general idea.

No idea, there's lots of Paph. complex hybrids... if I were you, I'd label it as "Pap. Complex Hybrid, Received from ________."

LOL. There's the branching, though. I've never seen it before, certainly not at the grocery store. Then again, they've got Zygos there, too, so anything goes.

those "flowers" actually look like seed pods. you will have to wait i guess.

No, I know they aren't flowers. But I doubt they are fertile, didn't want to call them pods, so I didn't know what to call them.

It's been a long, daffy weekend.


I did a little homework, and all I can know right now is they are multi-bloomers. Wonderful!

Probably some sort of Paph. primulinum or chamberlainianum hybrid. Hard to tell much more without a flower.

Ditto. Paphs, like Phals, are hybridized with such complexity that it's impossible to ID a plant with certainty. You might be able to get some rough guesses as to parentage, which will help determine care requirements for optimum growth. Better to save the plant, grab some photos of the flowers, and pass it on to someone who might want it long-term than let it wind up in the dumpster. Congrats on the save!
