I have one of these. The pitchers are beautiful and tubby. This is one of my favorites.
 
@ Carnivores - Thank you. Mine seems to be very resilient and pitchers no matter how much I neglect it!
 
Yes! Yes yes yes! I JUST bought a N. spec x aristo. I had been wanting one for a while and I finally took the plunge.

It just came in on Wednesday! SO HAPPY with it:

Yours looks amazing - nice red and green colors. Do you grow yours under lights? In a windowsill? How old is that plant? I LOVE THESE THINGS :banana2:
 
one of my favorites also. Plus it stays so small, like glabrata.
 
I too am quite a fan of this one. I think I have one coming in a trade, but I might be mistaken... I've recently been lucky enough to be offered several plants I've been drooling over for a long time - it's left my head spinning. Exciting! :D

@Fury - Congratulations with your new arrival, then! I've had the plant for a little over a year now. Not exactly sure how old it was when I bought it. I grow it inside a two gallon apothecary jar for extra humidity. Here in Northern California the average winter humidity is about 44%. The plant grows in the windowsill where it gets a couple hours of natural light and then my 26watt CFL kicks in for another 7 hours. I think one of the reasons it does so well is because almost the entire plant is inside the jar. However, the growth tip is just reaching the rim! This may be a good natural way to acclimate it to low humidity?? I have 1 1/2 inches of pea gravel under the pot which I fill with water to create a nice humid environment.

@Joe - Good luck if/when you get yours :) They are great little climbers.
 
You might want to take a look at Nepenthes Around the House. 44% RH is a little low, but not especially. I grow all of my highlanders as houseplants and my summer humidity frequently dips below 40% during the warmest part of the day. So long as you have cool air at night there shouldn't be enough drying to present any substantial difficulties - though you may need to play around with pot sizes and media to find a setup that allows your plants to take up adequate water. I'm guessing Folsom is not quite as Mediterranean as SF is, but our member Capslock lives there and does a bang-up job growing Neps with minimal fuss. He's not posting a lot these days but if you search for threads he's started I'm sure you can find some good information on his techniques.

It stays small yet it's a vigorous hybrid. Score!

@Jeff - that looks like a gorgeous plant to have on your windowsill. Nice setup! I currently have a N. ventricosa and a N. x Deroose alata growing in hanging baskets in my windowsill. They get about 4-5 hours of direct sun each day; the rest of the day they get dappled sun. But I don't do anything to supplement the humidity besides misting twice a day. They seem to be growing alright - the N. x Deroose alata hasn't pitchered yet, but then again it wasn't pitchering when I got it. I think once the season shifts and the photoperiod naturally increases it'll start pumping them out.

Anyway, my N. spectabilis x aristolochioides is growing in a plastic bag in my grow rack about 3" under two T12 bulbs @1200 lumens each. My plan is to gradually punch holes in the bag to acclimate it to the humidity in my grow rack. Eventually I might move it out into a hanging basket in my window if it gets large enough. Humidity in my grow rack hangs out in the mid-40s during the day and climbs to the high-70s at night. During the summer it's much higher - 55-60% during the day and 85-90% overnight.

Indeed a beautiful, vigorous and easy hybrid, which darkens as it ages, especially on more mature pitchers.

@Fury - You will have to keep me updated with your N. Spec x Aristo, especially when you transfer into a hanging basket. I bet it will look amazing! I wish my humidity was higher during the summer, but it's the opposite here. When the heat starts to crank up the humidity dips into the low 30s during the day.

@Carnivoure - That peristome is so dark! Thanks for sharing, great pitcher.

Here's a picture of a pitcher (haha) from mine about a year ago. It isn't pitchering now due to it adjusting to some changes. Great nepenthes.

OH MY!!!!! Night, those are stunning photographs and pitchers! I especially like the deep dark peristome in the second photograph.

Mine looks like a healthy mature is plant but its a dwarf compared to these ones.

they start out striped at first then turn dark a few days later

pygo those are great. I also didn't think the pitchers got that large. I think my biggest pitcher was under 2".
