Essentially, Drosera are a flypaper type trap. An insect landing on the leaf becomes mired in the glue like secretions at the end of the tentacles. As the insect struggles, a signal is sent to the nearby tentacles, causing them to bend toward the trapped prey, pressing it into the other glands at the leaf traps surface. In some species the entire leaf curls around the prey, bringing it into contact with the digestive glands. There are many forms of Drosera, from very small 1 cm rosettes known as "Pygmy" Drosera to large bushy plants to be found in the tuberous Drosera section that can reach to taller than a man. There are some 150-200 species in worldwide distribution, the greatest diversity beig found in Australia and South Africa.
