New study on Bladderworts interesting discovery

"The U. gibba genome is the smallest ever to be sequenced from a complex, multicellular plant." (4th paragraph)

This is incorrect. U. gibba has a genome sequence of roughly 80 Mbp whereas Genlisea margaretae's sequence is 63.4 Mbp, another plant G. aurea beats U. gibba with 63.6 Mbp.

I really enjoy watching you work!
 
I saw this article...pretty cool stuff, though I wonder why the plant does this. It doesn't really make sense to me that the plant could be cleaning out its DNA only because of natural selection.
