NASC auction is OPEN!!

Nepenthes robcantleyi (formerly known as Black Truncata)

I guess this is a good time to bump up this thread...with the whole discussion of this being a new species.

This one looks more like the queen.

the other, I don't have a pic on hand, is smaller and actually more like the king. I think u can see an older darker pitcher from that plant in this pic above.

A delicious looking plant and quite a fascinating new species, I still think that the new name is kind of weak. I would much rather have a plant named N. cantleyi or N. rob. N. robcantleyi just seems like too much? ???

Oh well he definitely deserves it though!

Beautiful plants everyone, I can't wait til mine looks like anything special. :)

Apparently, N. cantleyi would clash with the hybrid named N. x cantleyi, hence that possibility was discarded. As for N. rob, beats me but that would probably be the shortest species name for a Nepenthes.

"Rob" the nep.

Either way, Mr. Cantley himself is still embarrassed over the naming of this new species, but I do think he well deserves it to be named after him!

I got a N. robcantleyi about 11/12 months ago, about 2 inches across, with two pitchers. now it's 3 inches across with no pitchers, the leaves looked elongated, so im upping the lights and hoping that'll do the trick.
any other suggestions? btw, after upping the lights a bit, one pitcher started to inflate, so i think i've hit upon something.

I have always loved the "Queen of Hearts" look, :0o:
but never was able to get my hands on one.
Some nice looking plants here everyone.

Grow fast & propagate! :-O
(It's the only way I will ever afford one!)
:-D

By the way,the plant those yellow leaves are the plant's way of trying to tell you something.....

I want one of these but they are way to pricy. Hopefully the future releases from the now flowering plants at BE will be a bit cheaper.

Thought I'd post mine... I think it needs more light. It's strange how all these plants are showing different variations from one another..

On the contrary, I am of the opinion that overall they display remarkable similarity in most of the more important traits. (Dark coloring, green wings, wide peristome rib placement, etc.)

Dex that argument on Pitcher Plants between EP and Borneo you linked to is great. I haven't read stuff like that since the orchid forums - although there no mods ever edited anything. It was all tooth & claw!
