My new [huge!] Ventrata

DavyJones

Is ready to take this hobby to a whole new level
Well, I had never been a huge fan of Ventrata, but, as a graduation gift my girlfriend surprised me with this guy/gal. :banana2: She picked it up at a local nursery, and it looks rather good as such. It's really really big, with a bunch of growth points, etc. Not to mention a bunch of pitchers. What a surprise, and what a great new addition to my collection. It is enjoying it here outdoors in northern Ohio, just .5 miles away from lake erie. I've been bringing it indoors at night time, since its been dropping into the low 50's, but soon I should be able to leave it out all the time. :boogie: Here's some pics.

I believe any Nepenthes that is large is a sight to see, regardless of how common it is. Looks great. Just wait until all those growth points take off. Then you'll have one like this.

xvart.

It's still a bit chilly here for us to get our bugs out in full force yet, but I'd imagine it'll be real happy when things warm up and the critters come out.

Mines bigger. ;) Lol, just kidding, I think mines actually is just a bit smaller with more growth points. Great plant, congrats!

Shoooot I need a girlfriend like that!

N. ventrata is still a great hybrid. The fact that it's been around for ages and is fairly common doesn't make it any less so.

Very nice gift there I got a ventrata like that last year very nice and this spring I repotted it and took two cuttings which are growing well.

It's a nice easy to grow Nep I plan to try it outside pretty soon hope it does well like yours. =)

I just got a few of those too. They are awesome and easy to grow! The ventrata, not the girlfriend.

Pimpin! :D

I remember a few years ago when i was nice to my ventrata...good times. It was literaly a trelis plant! So cool!

But now, its all about testing it! I tried planting it in all sorts of weird medias. MiracleGrow, worm castings, coffee grounds/osmocote...oh oh i just thought of this punch line: im pulling a **** cheney on 'em!

Ha! Growing girlfriends who buy plants? Now that's the special touch!

My first Neps were ventratas from a local dept. store for 25 cents each.
I acclimated one to life in a tree with dappled sunlight straight through the leaves of the tree. It pitchered well even in the week or so we hit the 100's and also survived the first two nights of frost in autumn without losing a single leaf or pitcher. Two nights. If it doesn't freeze it won't hurt that plant in my experiences.

Part of my problem is my woman buys me wonderful plants even though the house has been taken over!
