Is Cuil.com "Cool"?

Today opened up Googles "competitor" Cuil.com . Supposedly our searches won't be logged for sale to government or corporations. I've done a few searches on it so far but how do we know we aren't being watched. I heard once, no matter what you do or how you try and cover your tracks online you're still being logged somehow somewhere by someone...

Discuss! :)

how exactly is google a threat to our privacy?

sure, maybe they track searches..but how do know its ME personally who is doing the searching? arent they really just tracking billions of basically anonymous searches?

how can google really know what im searching for?
and trace it to me, the real person, and do what? send me personalized spam?

or is there more to it?

thanks,
Scot

Do you not recall about a year or two ago n China Google gave over their records which led to several arrests of dissidents. It was called by Google a necessary evil in order to do business in the Eastern Market. That said, I still use Google, I'm merely posting a topic for discussion.

Anyhow, I don't know how it's traced. Your IP # is my guess since it's your computers ID which can be traced to your online purchases etc. ands then find "you". Those IP scrambing software's like Ghost Surf I've purchased do not work and still allow you to visit forums, do web searches, etc... basically you can't use the web if you have the privacy all the way up.

i personally love it, minus the fact a certain nursery *cough*, isnt on it. i like the search's layout though. and i honestly dont care if im being watched online. They can watch all they want for all i care! Its when something more than that comes along that i dont like it!

I just got the joke in the title, here, after reading this article at CNN.

I can't say I'm really a fan of it, simply because it didn't return the searches I'm accustomed to. Personally, I don't really use the internet for anything that would get me in trouble later in life, but I do like the idea of a safer surfing experience. I think the quote at the top of one of those links Est provided is very applicable and important:

"I worry about my child and the Internet all the time, even though she's too young to have logged on yet. Here's what I worry about. I worry that 10 or 15 years from now, she will come to me and say 'Daddy, where were you when they took freedom of the press away from the Internet?'"

We, at the NSA are all quite aware of your great fondness for Brazilian porn sites. Please, don't embarrass yourself or the US government with your petty denials . . .
