How do you know when the seeds are ready

I have a few VFT flowering, I let them flower because I wanted to try and get seed from them. The question is how do you know when the seeds are ready? I dont want to pick the flower/pod too early or too late. I have the same question with Drosera capensis (But I think that should go in a different thread?).

Any advice on collecting seeds would be great.

Why are they flowering now? they should be dormant unless your from the southern hemisphere......
the pods on capensis will be ready when they turn black, same with the VFT...black and start to flake off showing the shiny black seeds inside usually.

VFT seeds will be black when ripe and the pods will be practically bursting when the seeds are ripe.
