Horticultural Sand For Mexican Pings?

Does anybody use this sand for Mexican pings? I know it's used for cacti, but would this also be applicable for growing Mexi-pings?

Hi Jim,
I do use hort sand for most of my CP's, including most mexican pings. It should be inert so shouldnt be a problem. Maybe sieve it to get rid of the very tiny grains? sometimes it can clog things up if its too fine. Maybe wash it too if you are really worried.
Maybe someone else has other ideas?

I've used silica sand from a hardware store and it works great. Though I wish it were coarser.

How about cactus mix for Mexican pings?

I haven't tried it, but it's conceivable. Most cactus mix I find is high in aged cedar (cypress?) mulch which seems to work well enough for Neps. I'd be concerned about the content of compost and peat, though, and I imagine that some brands might use sedge peat rather than Sphagnum, which I'm pretty sure would be a bad thing. Mixing your own from mulch and aggregate (perlite, APS, etc.) would be an interesting experiment.
