over the winter, I watered them very regularly...every day or every other day, kept the soil very moist. Then in mid-March I went on spring break, so I flooded the pot, and that was the only water it got until I got back a week later. Ever since then I've been watering much less often, a couple times a week at most.

maybe it was a combination of what you said in another thread, that varying the water level and becoming potbound seem to be factors, along with it being the right time of year for flowers.
 
"spring rains" perhaps? All I could get out of mine, before they died out, was a couple 1.5" spikes with tiny teardrop buds - but I never actually saw the bunny ears.
