Dynastesssssss! *Pics!*

So, my Dynastes tityus pair arrived a week and a half ago, and they are soooo lovely.
Hopefully after they shake off their sleepiness in the coming months and make some grubby babies. :3

Warning: Lotsa pics!

They are sooooooo fun, and despite still being sluggish from dormancy, they're awful active once you dig them up.

Very nice! I haven't studied beetles too deeply, but there are a few really cool looking species like this. You say these require a dormancy? What does that mean, do they need cold temps for a few months a year? Is it bad to wake them up? Are you going to let them go back to sleep or did they wake up on their own?

Good luck with them!

Them's some purty beetlebugs you got, miss :3

Wow those are some awesome beetles!

They don't require dormancy, though are capable of going dormant at colder temps. Keeping them at cooler temps is supposed to be good for keeping them alive longer, especially if you're waiting on a beetle to mate them with. It's good for the larval stages to go through cold temps during their development too.
I think these guys were dormant to extend their "shelf life" a bit.
They're fine if I dig them up, though I'm always so scared that I'll squish em while digging.

How do you keep them?
