I definitely think you should try it. Maybe go for a colored glass bowl to hide the color of the water as the others said. Keep in mind that the more light there is passing through the water, the more algae and other kinds of muck will be able to grow. Growing companion plants like Sphagnum or Utricularia would also serve to prevent this.
