They form the hairs at a young age, that's what's nice about that specie. They will keep on growing...it's not a dormancy reaction it's just how the specie grows.
The intruder looks to be a nitidula x pulchella ...for now.
mine aren't quite as far along as yours ,but are doing the same thing , i like the little hairs ,
im using the sand treatment next time i start gemmae , those giant pieces, of perlite are dwarfing my
pygmy dews. LOL
