D. capillaris Long Arm from Tate’s Hell

Photo shot yesterday of my precious D. capillaris Long Arm from Tate’s Hell Swamp in Florida growing in a luxurious carpet of live sphagnum moss. The long upright leaves of this form of capillaris must be an adaptation for growing in semi-aquatic conditions. I’d like to grow it partly submerged in water, as I have seen D. intermedia, but I suppose that would only spur the growth of yucky algae. Sphagnum looks better.

I’m guessing you meant to write capillaris rather than intermedia. D. intermedia refuses to flower for me indoors under artificial lighting with constant Spring light hours. My Tate’s Hell Swamp Long Arm capillaris grows and flowers non stop.

I find that the Mt. Roraima form of D. intermedia flowers for me under artificial lights, though it is grown in a window and gets some natural light. It's a smaller form but 'seems very vigorous.

Photo shot yesterday. The Sundew from Hell is back again! Today is 2 months (56 days) since germination began. Already forming first flower stalk. Surprisingly fast. A real pleasure growing this one from seed. I sowed it with seed of my D. burmannii Beerwah in the same cup. The D. burmannii seedlings are growing fast too but will be awhile yet before they reach flowering size.
