Cypripedium acaule

Here are a few pics I took last year in the Sheepsfold, a reservation only about 2 miles from downtown Boston.

it is a specie to the pine and oak forest ?

acaule ? she have a stem no , strange her name

acaule in latin = without stem

their height?
 
perhaps the referance is to the plant itself, meaning the flower stalk is not a stem?
