Cobraplant trip!!

So the esteemed Mr. Not a Number and I went on a Darlingtonia (and Drosera and Pinguicula) trip over the Memorial day long-weekend a couple weekends back and it was a nice weekend in the mountains. We don't really have nice forests here in SoCal, so it was quite nice. As usual, I took *way* too many pics, and was wondering how to organize it all. I think animal, vegetable (non-cp and cp), mineral is the winner this time around, but a little chronological organization first - so here goes:

The first day we flew into Portland in the early AM, and tried to hit a site I had for Southern Oregon that day. Uhhh...
IMG_4589_zpsratvjovf.jpg

Oops! Now, this was his first trip, so I was feeling a little bad. The next day, the second site? Snow again! I was reallllly hoping NaN's first trip wouldn't just be a snow-seeing trip :0o: Finally we found some Cobras though!

So here goes animal:

Poor spindly cobras :(
P5280586_zpsumooudct.jpg

We revisited a couple other sites before skipping town, and also had to leave behind one of the sites untouched. The rental car couldn't get there - I've never seen a 'pull over cuz your transmission is overheating' alarm before this trip, oops. Maybe next time if we get something burly-er car-wise. Anyway... now for the minerals - I figure, you need some of the landscape to appreciate how beautiful it is up around the redwood forests...

Those red plants are amazing! And I really like the shape of the juvenile Darlingtonia pitchers. A few years ago I visited a site in Taiwan that looked very similar to the vertical rock face in your pictures, except it had Utricularia striatula on it. I'm pretty surprised by how similar the habitats look.

From our second snowed-over site, but it was a pretty view from another nice mountain:

Ok, that's about it. I tried to pick out the better looking shots to showcase here, but I'm a sucker for any sorta CP pics :p Hope you enjoyed the trip as much as we did!

I was amazed too! Actually so even between the coasts here - the Sarracenia on the East and the Cobras on the West, there's similarities from what I've noticed. Spindly grass, grass-y flowers that have sort of white pom-poms on top, and just the feel of the place looks similar. It's like CP habitat is just a feeling you get in your bones and your CP-senses perk up.
