CO2 for aquatic utrics

Hey everyone, I am having some major algea problems with my utrics, I saved two strands from the two species I own and left the others to be invaded. I threw away the top layer of plants just to get rid of the ugly green slime on the actual utric tank, it's growing back. It's been a long time since I've seen Daphnia in the water, too. Right now, I have a cutting of each aquatic species I own in a tray with sundews. I was wondering if I could make one of those DYI CO2 injectors and feed it to the water? What about the sensitive muck/open water/plant layers in the tank? I'm afraid that they will intertwine and have the plants polluted with soil. Any ideas?
