I just did about 1.5" of hydroton, did a layer of egg crate with window screen material, then about 1" of pumice. For my media layers, I did a 50:50 mix of pumice : peat and put down about 1.5". I mixed in more peat to the tub I was mixing in and got it to about 1:3 for the rest of the (top) layer that varies in thickness. I slope upward to the back to 1) get more real estate (yeah, very minimal) but more importantly 2) optical appeal. I don't want to hijack this thread... so... maybe I'll start my own...?
