Any tips for Rooting N. khasiana?

I just bought a N. khasiana wich I would like to cut and root. It has a basel shoot and a long stem with growth at the top. I bought it with cutting in mind. Then I come home and read that it is hard to root ... or is it. I've been reading conflicting reports on line about the difficulty of rooting this species.

Anyone have any experience? Any tips would be helpful. I have rooting hormone Hormodine 2 and Hormodine 3 (sp?). I plan on using #3 since it appears to be hard to root.

It is hard to strike a cutting of N. khasiana. Use the rooting hormone, keep the humidity constantly at 80 percent or more, bright, diffused light (We've found too much shade invites fungal attack) without burning, moderate temps-warm days, coolish nights, what you might call "intermediate" temperatures. You might want to just take a tip cutting for a better chance at success. Let the long vine then start anew from an eye below the cut point. KeikiGrow will expedite this. Once the "new" tip starts growing, take another tip cutting. Or, go ahead and chop up the vine, and watch the basal really take off. Don't expect too much from the cut up vine. If you're lucky, the tip and maybe the next piece below will strike.

Hey Glen -

I have had MUCH better success rooting Neps when I make sure everything is clean & the knife is sterile (dipped in alcohol then flamed). After I make the cut, I also cut a 1 inch vertical slit on the back side. After dipping the cut end in the rooting hormone I carefully wrap damp LFS around it, then a little more to make a nice ball and put it into a yogurt sized pot and then into a plastic bag. I try to squeeze most of the excess water out of the LFS. If it's too wet it invites rot.

I didn't think it was too difficult to root. I use no rooting hormone and just regular long fiber sphagnum moss. All i did was snip snip, and pot it up. I now have a cutting with good growth and quite colorful pitchers.

I'm going to go for it and cut off the stem chop it up and try and get several plants from the cuttings. I think I will use the lower strength rooting hormone. So far my success rate with other Neps has been about 50%. Not too good but I think I will get better as I learn by doing.

I think I my have bought one of the plants with a single large rosette if I would have known in advance that striking a cutting was harder than with most other Neps. Hey but what fun would that be?
