I was just joking. Yes, the pollen did not stain with MTT, and therefore the 30 seconds of nuking was probably sufficient.

30 secs of nuking alone was not enough, I had to rehydrate then nuke.
Nuking it for 40 secs while still dehydrated had no noticable effect.

Microwaves work by exciting water, fat and sugar molecules... so guessing it helped to have a higher moisture content
