I am in charge of the CP's in the greenhouse at my university (this will be my second year actually) and many of the labels are either faded or missing. I'm more of a Sarracenia and Nep guy, so I need a bit of help identifying some Drosera and Pinguicula. Please excuse the weeds...part of trying...
I bought this plant today half way ripped out of soil. Roots are brown and somewhat shriveled. What is this plant and how do I properly take care of it?

I am using the tray method on many of my sundew pots now, but the soil keeps drying. All of the pots have 3+ drainholes and I keep them in 1+ inches of water most of the time. The soil is moist directly underneath any dryness, it is only 1mm or less on the very top that dries out. Would getting...
So, I have a D. multifida 'extrema' plant that has never flowered for me. It's already survived one winter under lights, but I'm getting nervous only having one, so I want to start at least one cutting in a terrarium as a backup.
I'm curious as to the best way to do this. I know a few people...
Glad I found this forum. Been doing a lot of reading. Probably like some of you I didn't start out to have a terrarium. I have a 75 gallon aquarium that I am tired of the upkeep. Please tell me a terrarium is not as time consuming as an aquarium. Anyway my specific question now is can I use the...
Just spent the strangest hour and a half. I trimmed and re-potted plants that were neither orchids or carnivorous. I mean my hands were touching actual potting soil, not "media" or sphagnum. It, it, it just didn't feel normal. What's worse, now I don't know where to put them come cold weather...

So I bought some nepenthes seeds off ebay and now I'm not sure what soil I should use in order to sow the seeds. The seeds are ampullaria, and having read like ten other sowing methods. I'm thinking of just using peat and perlit mix and putting the pot in plastic bags and placing them under my...
Hi all,
So my Drosera paradoxa is going into dormancy, and I don't have much experience with this. amphiron's crash course guide says to keep temperatures high but to let the soil dry out. However, I heat my terrarium by putting an aquarium heater in a jar of water; thus, humidity is always...
I have a Cephalotus planted successfully in peat/sand mixture and has been thriving the past year. I want to add a decorative soil cover of some sort of stone. My local hardware stores sell Mosser-Lee River Gravel and Pearl Stone. Would these work, or are they too alkaline (limestone)?
I've...
I know that B52 is supposed to grow much faster than red dragon and tends not to divide as much, but how much faster?
What is the fastest growing Venus Fly Trap Cultivar?
Are my Venus fly traps and Sundews going to grow on these magic Chinese growing crystals or will they kill them...
Howdy, y'all!
Starting a series of pots in the front yard. These will be fully exposed to the harsh Texas sun and relatively low humidity (generally around 30%-40%). My main purpose for this thread is to hopefully clear up any doubts that these plants can be grown in harsh conditions such as...
I basically just cut my sister's Dahlia tenuicaulis to the ground. It needed a little (or a lot) of pruning and rejuvenation. This is a moderately fragrant, magenta-flowered plant, which tends to be bushier than Dahlia imperialis. It also tends to bloom more year round, instead of just...
In celebration of our recent in vitro successes with Nepenthes attenboroughii; and because you guys -- gals too -- are generally good eggs, we're giving one plant to some lucky grower, to be chosen at random, by those merry sylphs over at random.org, in one week's time.
We had hoped to have...

Any idea what these little mysterious plant things growing in the sphagnum moss that tops the soil of some of our plants?
Anyone ever have this growing in their sphagnum? Any ideas what it is? Is it harmful? Should i leave it or should i try and pick them out of the sphagnum moss?
The giveaway is for one plant each for two people, usual rules. I'll try to do this by noon on Thursday, as I would really like to ship on Friday. Shipping $7 Paypal.
That leaves me 3, none of which I want to keep, plus an unrooted one with odd coloration, which is also fair game, but it...
I have a Pinguicula Planifolia that has suddenly developed an issue where the tips of its leaves are drying out. It still produces mucous elsewhere and has growth from the center of the plant. I grow this plant in a bowl with S. Psittacina and P. Lutea, those plants are healthy and have no such...
Graptoveria 'Fred Ives' is a pretty well-known succulent hybrid, with a reputation of being extremely easy to grow and propagate, and a bit hardy.
The crested form is also very cool. Today I was at a local nursery, and decided to get the plant again. I probably really don't have enough sun...
I got a Drosophyllum at the BACPS show on Saturday, and I would like some advice on how often to water it.
It is in the same two-foot terracotta pot as my old one which died. The pot is about two feet tall as well. The medium is equal parts of perlite, sand, peat, and vermiculite although...
