After some frustration with a cool mist humidifier and some failed make shift wick replacements I decided to put together a make shift humidifier myself using only materials I've had laying around the work bench from past experimentation with peltiers, bog gardens and water buckets.
Materials...
So my reptifogger stopped working after about two days
today my ultrasonic fogger stopped working as well.
there is enough water in the tank, its clean water (with slight plant debris) and the water temperature is around 88 degress.
any ideas?!
Not much to say here, I accidentally ordered way too much Spanish Moss online and need to get rid of a lot of it. If you want some, post here.
Spanish Moss (Tillandsia usneoides) is a subtropical bromeliad, closely related to the air plants you see in the store. It's not a real moss, nor a...
So I am having problems keeping the humidity up in my grow room. Back when I was setting it up for a test run, the cool mist humidifier fogged the room up wonderfully. Since I added my lowlanders and heater to keep it warm the humidifier is not doing the job. Since I only have a few neps, I ran...
So I'm looking at upgrading my humidifier. Right now I have one of those portable ones that you stick a water bottle on top of. It's alright but it's annoying refilling it so often and I'm also expanding out onto a second shelf in my grow rack and I don't think this little thing has the oomph to...
So I've been doing some thinking after talking to the GrowLab kids. My plants have started growing so much better since I started growing them in water (raised humidity). Well, I'm still getting burnt LFS so I wanted to dampen the light a bit. Plus I wanted to adopt a better growing style...
Yeah, I know was originally planning on getting a Ceph, but I decided I'd hold off on that for the time being since I have a few trips planned and it would be too easy for someone to water it wrong and kill it (making it either too dry or too wet, watering it with tapwater, etc). So I decided to...
Not literally of course, but to insects those traps must be pretty frightening! I mean should I stay away from trying to grow them or finally take the plunge and get one of those little guys? I've been eying them since I first read The Savage Garden, they seem like the "holy grail" of...
I had lots of really nice home grown sphagnum but I moved it to my new HL chamber and now it's bleaching out. I was wondering if it would be OK to mix up a very light high nitrogen low phosphorus fertilizer and mist it on the moss to hopefully green it back up without encouraging algae. I've got...
I had "quit" Nepenthes and all growing of plants in late 2006 early 2007 but I have been slowly sucked back in starting with succulents in 2009 and vivariums in 2010 and now (inevitably) here is my new Highland Nepenthes chamber. It's based on the same principle as my old one but using a new...

Hello!
So, I went out an I got an ultrasonic fogger for my terrarium, and it has to be the coolest thing ever. However, it did not work exactly as I predicted, so I had to think outside of the box. Well, inside of the box, really. I was inspired and made a similar contraption as in the...

Hi,
some of you may already know my pictures from my trip to South Africa in September last year from other forums.. As i have not yet shown them here, i think it is worth posting them here too. I feel, some of the members may not yet have seen them. I will start my series with Drosera...
Here is something that is common yet many have never seen, Sphagnum sporophytes.
I originally imported this species live from New Zealand many moons ago. This culture is a descendant of the original cultures that were featured in my "Growing Sphagnum Moss" web page.
Sorry for the crappy pics...

I built a 6 foot tall x 4 ft wide and 2 foot deep wooden plant shelf setup with 3 shelves for my succulents I now want to covert it over to more or less a 3 shelf highland system.
All I need to do is add a plexiglass lid to the top and plug a new humidification system on it since it's already...
Hey all.
Time for my first post!
I have started as a winter project a Highland Nepenthes Terrarium. An i'm quite please with the results! There is still a lot of improvements that could and may be done. But not bad for a first timer I think. A terrarium with lights was the only way to go since...
Thought yall would get a good laugh outta this. Got this from another board....
Around age 10 my dad got me one of those Little Bad-boy Compound Bow
beginner kits. Of course, the first month I went around our place
sticking arrows in anything that could get stuck by an arrow. Did you
know...
