I found many monarch caterpillar eggs on milkweed back on the 1st of August, and they have since grown into large and voracious caterpillars. I keep them in a 10 gallon tank with milkweed stems in cups of water. You guys have no idea how much milkweed 20 fourth instar monarch caterpillars can go...
Today i was outback, and saw the beebalm, and found a monarch caterpillar! I put it in a blank cd case( the hundred packs u buy at walmart & best buy) and look at it
Unfortuantely, tommorrow i leave for vacation, i hope it doesnt make a christylis(sp?) by then
I found this caterpillar on one of my bushes and I thought I'd keep him so I can see how it'll turn into a butterfly. It made it's chrysalis either last night or this morning. So in 12-14 days, I'll have a Monarch :-D
Here is the caterpillar
And here is what he is now
It decided to make...
So I spot this on one of my Drosera filiformis var tracyi
I go after it with the trusty forceps and it drops down into the pot and tries to pretend to be a twig (note the silk lifeline going off to the right):
I'll spare you the decapitation and feeding to my Sarracenia rosea but here's...
:banana2: :woot: Here are some pics of my new CP plants. Just got them in a few days ago so they are still de-stressing.

A little caterpillar came in with the Ping eating one of the leaves. We plucked it off and fed it to one of the VFT's :-))

SOMETHING has been eating large chunks of leafy material from my VFTs! Two or three of my typicals from the .99 cent store, my akai ryu, and now my B52 are all missing chunks of their plant flesh! I first noticed it on the Akai Ryu because a new large trap that went up was missing a significant...
Well, my Sarracenia flava is out of dormancy, and I noticed a small hole punched in its first pitcher before it opened. Today, the top has browned and died off and I wondered what got to it. I broke off the top, peered inside, and saw lots of nasty brown/black granules of crud, and something...

From my book collection.
Back in this thread I mentioned that I had found a silk nest/tube and some bug droppings (caterpillar like) in the moss of my D. paradoxa pot where some of the plants went south (see this thread.).
Well last night while going over the same pot with a tweezers and magnifying glass I found this...
Hello,
I checked some of my still-dormant Sarracenia bulbs this morning and finally found a reason why my S. Leucophylla X "Willissii" wasn't sprouting yet. A caterpillar had lodged itself hidden against one of the shoots and enjoying quite a feast. I took the caterpillar and angrily threw it...
A leaf (about 0.5 cm) fell off the main plant when I repotted it. I left the leaf behind on a mass of sphagnum moss thinking it would just die off anyway. In 2 months, I got this. Btw, that is a 1 cm, not 1 inch.
By the way, the "caterpillar" lives here among the sphagnum.
Can anyone ID this caterpillar? It was photographed on 9/17/05 in the NJ Pine Barrens. It was about 4" long an 1/2" wide. I tried looking online, but there were so many moths and butterflies common to the area.
I just tried to feed my Cape Sundews a little green caterpillar and both times I tried, it managed to force its way through the goo! It always ticks me off when bugs get away, because they leave the leaf all nasty looking...
...I got fed up and fed it to a fast-moving Venus Flytrap. That'll...
Just a few pics of springtime...

Okay, like I've said before, I've had very bad CP luck for a VERY long time now. Except for a couple months this year that they've done pretty good, my current stock has been looking quite bad for as long as I've had them. I currently have one Dente VFT, several unidentified VFTs, one Judith...
