Why didn't neps take off

Hey all, was looking at a thread from another forum asking why orchids took off after WW2 when neps didn't. They were both desirable plants grown throughout Europe. What happened to hold neps back and push orchids into the mass market? What do you guys think?

Orchids have pretty flowers
And ppl didnt have money for the stuff required to keep neps alive (fuel was very expensive)
And most if not all private colletions died bec of fuel shortages etc in both world wars.
It also might have something to do with wether nep nurseries or orchid nurseries survived the war.
Maybe only major orchid nurseries made it out ok.

Same as now. The orchid industry is how big compared to Nep industry? Let's see, in the states there are how many nurseries dedicated to Neps (growing & t/c)? Uh ... that would be zero. The giant USA cannot support one dedicated nursery - we get all of our plants from other countries...???

Pretty flowers win .... :hail:
